Obituary for Ronald Dean Downey

Ronald Dean Downey of Marysville, died of complications following a heart attack on May 2, 2018. Ron Downey was born in Santa Paula, California on January 24, 1950, to Donald Dean Downey and Ruth Ann Downey.

The family moved to Northern California in 1953 and ultimately settled in Marysville in 1960. Ron graduated from Marysville High School in 1968, and went on to attend Yuba College where he played baseball and rugby before transferring to the Sunset School of Preaching in Lubbock, Texas. Ron Downey earned a Doctorate in Ministry from the Theological University of America.

From 1972 to the end of his life he served as a preacher and missionary for the churches of Christ. He preached for a variety of churches in California, including three in the Twin Cities, and most recently in Lodi. Over his career as a missionary he served churches in Canada, Australia, Mexico, India, Singapore, Vietnam, Cambodia, Korea, Indonesia, Thailand, and the Philippines.

He is survived by his wife of 46 years, Shirley Ann Downey; four children, John Downey of Simi Valley, California, Rebecca Thompson and Jenna Sepulveda of Yuba City, and Nick Downey of Marysville; his mother Ruth Downey; and sister, Cindi Lofton of Marysville. Ron is also survived by 10 grandchildren: Ethan Liddle, Jayson Thompson, Nikolas Sepulveda, Mikayla Thompson, Mallory Thompson, Troy Downey, Jordan Downey, Kyle Downey, Rylan Downey, and Leah Downey. Ron was preceded in death by his father, Donald Downey.
